Adolescent Sexual Health course Course overview
This day is developed for nurses who wish to have an insight into adolescent development. Key topics that are addressed on the course include:

- developing sexuality
- the use of contraception
- sexually transmitted infection
- teenage pregnancy and abortion
- transgender
- homosexuality
- adolescent development linked to sexuality.
Confidentiality, safeguarding and consent will be discussed throughout the day.

This course is for youth workers and nurses who are giving care to young people in schools, primary care and GP surgeries.

What will I learn?
Following this day you will have an understanding of adolescents’ sexual development and the choices they can make to reduce ill health.
You will develop an awareness of some of the pressures that young people have to conform to and the impact that these pressures have on their future. You will be able to give information related to adolescents about contraception and sexual health, and have an understanding of homosexuality and gender issues related to adolescents.
Confidentiality, safeguarding and consent will be discussed throughout the day in relation to all the topics.
Assessment and certificates
Teaching styles such as powerpoint presentation, scenarios and discussion of experiences will be used. There will be group work to discuss the scenarios that are explored.
There is no formal assessment.
A Certificate will be issued for attendance.
