Global Week at City St George’s kicked off with a reception celebrating the University’s international students.

Students who have been awarded merit-based scholarships to study at City St George’s were invited to the annual Global Scholars Reception on Monday 18 November.

Taking place in the University Building, the event celebrated student successes and provided an opportunity for students to network with fellow scholarship recipients. University staff and external guests were also in attendance including an alumni lead from the British Council.

The event marked the start of Global Week, a cross-institutional programme of internationally themed events and activities for City St George’s staff and students. One of the objectives of the week is to celebrate the contribution that our internationally diverse community makes to life at City and around the world.

Mark Hertlein, Head of Global Engagement at City St George’s, University of London, said:

“Given City St George’s commitment to putting students at the heart of what we do, the Global Scholars reception was a fitting start to Global Week.

The event was an opportunity to congratulate our scholarship holders who have come through intensely competitive selection processes—and to say how much we value their being here, in our newly merged institution, as City St George’s students.

“Their presence is not only a sign of our commitment to attracting high-achieving students from around the world, and giving them the best learning experience, but also of our commitment to global engagement at a time when global crises and geopolitical shifts have made international contact more complex.”

Mais Montazar, Alumni UK Global Programme Lead at the British Council, told students:

We hope that when you return to your home countries, you do so as resilient global citizens. Your journey of professional development is just beginning, and it will continue through the Global Alumni UK programme —a worldwide network of distinguished international UK alumni.

From 18-22 November, more events will take place at City St George’s to celebrate Global Week. Events will include information sessions, workshops and networking opportunities with programme coordinators and global partners.
