My Home Life has been at the forefront of promoting quality of life for people who live, work in and visit care homes for more than 15 years.
City University of London is proud to host My Home Life England as part of the School of Health & Psychological Sciences.
The initiative was originally founded in 2006 by Help the Aged (now Age UK) in partnership with the National Care Forum and City, University of London and a core group of influential care organisations at the time.
Sharing best practice and success stories
My Home Life wanted to focus on the excellent care that many homes provide for people living in them. The aim was to share best practice and highlight inspirational stories of success.
The My Home Life movement is based around four evidence-informed frameworks:
- Developing best practice together
- Focusing on relationships
- Being appreciative
- Having caring conversations.
These frameworks emerged from reviewing the evidence about best practice in care homes.
As part of this evidence review, the role of professional support and development for care home managers and leaders also emerged as vital. So, co-created with the care home sector, My Home Life developed a leadership support and community development programme built around the four frameworks.
Since then My Home Life has become an international movement. In addition to the team in England, My Home Life is also hosted by partners in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Germany and Australia.
The My Home Life England core team is supported by a network of associates with years of experience in coaching, facilitation and working in or alongside care homes. Research, evaluation and social action support the development of best practice, an essential component of My Home Life England’s philosophy.
Development programmes for care home managers and leaders
The demand for development programmes supporting managers and leaders working in social care environments grows each year.
In response, My Home Life England continues to evolve the support, training and consultancy it offers, shaped by listening to the sector, the people who commission and support care homes and the policy frameworks that have a direct impact on social care.
My Home Life England currently provides long term transformational programmes as well as shorter online courses.
