Why did you decide to apply to study at City, University of London?

The modules of the course are what made City my number one choice. I loved the practicality of all the modules on the course because I knew after studying them I’d have a clearer idea of what kind of career I’d enjoy. Prior to applying I was afraid of the different modules I’d be undertaking but I knew it would be beneficial in helping me understand where my strengths and weaknesses lie. The course also provides several beneficial schemes like work placement and the Professional Mentoring Scheme, which really appealed to me.

What were the most important resources in helping you to make a decision?

Studying English means I need access to books and a comfortable study space. So, making that all library services are exceptional was very important to me. City is also located very close to the British Library, this also swayed me when I was deciding because it is a pleasant place to study if the university library is full.

What is your favourite thing about studying at City?

I love studying at City because alongside the curriculum there are loads of academic and personal development schemes available to you. For example, I joined the Professional Mentoring Programme to help me progress in my career. City's environment really gives you a chance to develop yourself professionally.

What kind of things are you involved in outside of your course?

I am a Marketing Student Ambassador and the Programme Representative for my course. I am also involved in City's Rugby team.

What experience have you had that will help you with future careers?

I interned at Penguin Random House Marketing department for two weeks. This placement helped me a lot in determining what career I’d like to explore after graduating. I was set on editorial in publishing but after this placement I discovered that I am much more suited to marketing.

What is your favourite thing about living in London?

The perfect place to live whilst studying is London. There’s a place for everything you could ever need or crave. The diversity in London means that all different kinds of events are celebrated with equal glamour and pizzazz, this satisfies my need to travel and explore new cultures without having to travel far.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

Graduation seems very far away right now, but this summer I will be doing a lot of career exploration by doing placements in different fields to uncover hidden talents and ignite passion for careers I wouldn’t consider. I am interested in potentially exploring the marketing and publishing sector.

What would be your top tip for our applicants?

Take responsibility to immerse yourself into every opportunity you have at hand; Get involved in everything that excites you. Three years will fly by and you don’t want to be the person asking themselves what they did at university. You never know where this will take you.
